A hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (also called a hydrogen car or fuel cell vehicle) is a type of electric vehicle that generates electricity to power an electric motor by combining hydrogen fuel with oxygen from the air.
The principle of a hydrogen car is based on the conversion of chemical energy from hydrogen fuel into electrical energy. This process takes place in the vehicle's fuel cell, which is made up of several layers of materials that are separated by a membrane. The hydrogen fuel is stored in a tank on the vehicle and is sent to the anode side of the fuel cell, where it is broken down into protons and electrons. The protons pass through the membrane to the cathode side, while the electrons are sent to an external circuit, generating electricity to power the electric motor. On the cathode side, the protons and electrons are reunited with oxygen from the air to form water, which is the only by-product of the process.
The hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is similar to the battery electric vehicle in terms of driving experience, but the fuel cell vehicle has the advantage of having a much larger range, as hydrogen tanks can be refilled in a matter of minutes, unlike recharging an electric battery can take hours. Also, hydrogen is a very common element on Earth and can be produced from a variety of sources, including renewable energy and natural gas, making it a cleaner and sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels.
